Fast Five Review: A Street Cat Named Bob (2016)

A Street Cat Named Bob
2016 | PG | Drama

James, a recovering drug addict and promising busker, is on his ninth life when he meets Bob, a ginger cat with nowhere else to go. Suddenly, James has a reason to get his life back on track. Based on a real-life story – and starring Bob himself – A Street Cat Named Bob is a heart-warming take of redemption and second chances.

1 ) Did you like it?

Yeah. Okay, this film has a few over-the-top cutesy moments – the subplot involving Bob’s vendetta against a mouse, for instance – but for a film that sets out to warm hearts, it does a jolly good job ❤️

2) Why?

In one word: Bob! He’s seriously adorable. Also, Luke Treadaway comes pretty close to stealing the show in his role as Bob’s human co-star!

3) You’ll enjoy this movie if…

They say there are two kinds of people in the world – cat lovers…and cat lovers in denial. Which means that pretty much everyone will love A Street Cat Named Bob. Anyone who’s ever been adopted by a cat will be able to relate to the scene in which James has to give Bob antibiotic tablets and nearly loses an arm in the process.

4) This movie made me think about…

While the film does make an attempt to show the realities of life on the streets, it’s still a little naïve. For a grittier take on life below the poverty line in modern England, it’s pretty hard to go past I, Daniel Blake.

5) Overall rating?
