Beauty and the Bbeautyandthebeastliveactiondvdeast

Genre: Family
Classification: PG
Audience: Junior
Release Date: June 21

A young prince, imprisoned in the form of a beast, can be freed only by true love. What may be his only opportunity arrives when he meets Belle, the only woman who has visited the castle since it was enchanted.

It’s a brand new look at a tale as old as time – a much-hyped live action, musical adaptation of the classic Disney animated film, starring Harry Potter‘s Emma Watson as Belle.

According to costume designer, Jacqueline Durran, the elaborate yellow gown Emma Watson wears during the film’s ballroom sequence was made from over 55 metres of lightweight satin organza, accentuated with 2,160 Swarovski crystals. It took in excess of 12,000 designer hours to complete.

Wondered what Watson’s co-star, Dan Stevens looked like as the Beast…without CGI? Be our guest! Just try not to laugh…

T2: Trainspottingt2trainspottingdvd

Genre: Drama
Classification: R18+
Audience: Adult
Release Date: June 14

Twenty years have gone by. Much has changed – but just as much remains the same. Mark Renton returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie. Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger.

Trainspotting author, Irvine Welsh, originally wrote a sequel to his book back in 2002, however, director Danny Boyle waited to make T2 so the cast looked visibly older than they did when the first Trainspotting film was released in 1996.

Good news for fans: Welsh released The Blade Artist, a third novel based on the characters from Trainspotting last year, and plans for a third Trainspotting movie are already in motion.

The Lego Batman Moviethelegobatmanmoviedvd

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The Lego Movie a worldwide phenomenon, Lego Batman stars in his own big-screen adventure. There are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others…and maybe even learn to lighten up.

Actor, Morgan Freeman, who appeared in The Dark Knight trilogy, as well as The Lego Movie, has said that Lego Batman is his favourite incarnation of the iconic superhero.

Will Arnett, who is the voice of Lego Batman, has spoken in interviews about the effect that speaking in Batman’s gravelly voice has on his vocal cords. According to Arnett, four hour shifts would leave him in pain afterwards. Apparently, shouting in Batman’s voice was the hardest aspect of the role for Arnett – next to rapping. You’ll have to watch the film to see that. Instead, take a look at the official trailer…

A Cure for Wellnessacureforwellnessdvd

Genre: Thriller
Classification: MA15+
Audience: Adult
Release Date: June 21

An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness centre” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests longing for the cure.

The creepy sanatorium in A Cure for Wellness was an old tuberculosis clinic that has been a ruin for decades. 750 windows, 350 doors and 1,200 square metres of walls were replaced to return the building to its original glory. Another location used to great effect in the film was Castle Hohenzollern, which dates back to the 11th century. This aesthetically stunning film is guaranteed to mess with your brain. Sorry/not sorry in advance…

Gotham Season 2gothamseason2dvd

Genre: Action
Classification: MA15+
Audience: Crime
Release Date: June 7

Gotham tells the story behind Detective Jim Gordon’s rise to prominence in Gotham City in the years before Batman’s arrival. In Season Two, a realignment of alliances shakes up the fight for power. With Detectives Gordon and Bullock at the forefront of the fight against crime in this dangerously corrupt city, Gordon’s moral compass wavers as he confronts Gotham’s most notorious criminals. At the same time, he continues his quest to gain the trust of the young Bruce Wayne, who is now on a clear path towards the man he is destined to become.

The showrunner behind Gotham, Bruno Heller, has stated that Gotham is not set in any particular time period. The show’s unique aesthetic allows outdated technology, like rotary phones and tube televisions to coexist with more modern inventions, like mobile phones. At the beginning of the series, you might be able to recognise some of the landmarks of New York visible in the Gotham skyline, but as the series progresses, more and more CGI effects have been added to give Gotham City a more sinister feel.
